Pele is Fired Up!

Big Islands Volcano Goddess "Pele" must be having a bad time of the month because she is letting everyone on Big Island feel her fire! She is going off folks!

The past couple days everyone has asked me how much pakalolo I have been smokin'. None. My eyes are burning and blood red because they are filled with sulfur and vog (volcanic junk in the air).

Let me explain... Kilauea is doing it's thing and the winds are blowing towards Kona. Actually the winds are making sure the entire island gets some vog! It looks like we live in NY City it is so voggy out!

Enjoy the photos! If you plan on doing any long runs be sure to wear a gas mask...

This is the greatest... there is a little sign in the back that says, "no swimming" but everyone is swimming! The water is super warm from the hot lava heating it up... never mind the fact you might BOIL!

Hi Bree, these photos are excellent, thanks for sharing--not easy to come by on the main land. Also I wanted to congratulate you on completing training camp and thank you for sharing your journey via your blog. I started reading earlier this year and have enjoyed keeping up with your adventures and appreciate that a tough chick like you is willing to share her highs and lows with the triathlon community.

Amazing photos. Did you take them yourself? I was in Hawaii about 5 years ago and now I'm desperate to get back there. We'll see how it goes....
I hope that strange stinky Vog doesn't hurt you too much!
Stay well

Wow-such cool photos. I'll settle for 'boiling' in that swimming area. Certainly beats feezing in the Minnesota lakes these days! Cheers !

Hey Bree, I just wanted to say that it was great meeting you at the Lavaman and Lavacamp last week. I had a blast. I also feel honored to have the back of my head...or a picture with you on the side of your blog. haha. Oh, and my two new splish suits were waiting on my doorstep when I got back to my apartment and I totally rocked the business suit at the pool today. haha.

Good luck with training and upcoming races!!! I look forward to hearing about more of your amazing accomplishments!

Your blog is very informative, almost seems like a must read. If the vog gets bad, try to swim more or run near the ocean, as it tends to get worse at higher altitudes. In any case, it is not the same everywhere you go.

Sweet shots of the volcanoes. Watch how much vog you get. I like warm water too but I wouldn't be swimming anywhere close to lava.

Thanks for the messages you sent. I'll be working on it and let you know what happens.
