Queen of hand me downs...

When you live in a house of 5 girls you tend to get a lot of hand-me-downs! That's life growing up... My hand-me-down life kept right on going though, it sizzled over into triathlon too. I wanted it to end so bad I could smell nylon, rayon, polyester, whatever material swim suits are made of!

That Speedo photo above was one of a BUNCH of Speedo suits I had. Believe me, I was NOT sponsored by Speedo. And frankly, that suit is ugly. It is plain blue (I had plain dark blue too and plain black, and plain blue with red seams). They were all ugly. BUT they were free hand-me-downs. I have a friend in Kona (VERY fast friend that is a Speedo sponsored swimmer) and she would give me her old suits and even new ones! I loved it! I needed suits so I wore them... BUT trust me, I day dreamed about getting my own sponsor and getting my own suits, maybe even cool colorful suits.

The past year I have slowly forgotten those ugly suits. The memories faded away as Splish suits POUR (I mean that too) POUR out of my swim suit box. I forgot them until Monday. That ugly photo was on the cover of "Triathletes Hawaii" magazine. Monday, when Linda from Bike Works gave it to me I had flash backs of the ugly suit... I totally thank my friend for giving me the suits, BUT man I am glad those days are over!

I have to give a HUGE mahalo to Dawn & Ira at Splish for the BEST suits a girl could ever have! Splish is the very first sponsor I ever got (other than my local bike shop, Bike Works). Dawn totally believed in me & put me on the team! Now my suits are filled with stars, rainbows, Hawaiian islands, Kainoa, COLORS! Loads of COLORS! I think they gave me speed in the water too because now I like to swim!
Here I am sporting one of my favorite Splishy suits... WAY better than the top photo. Again, Mahalo Dawn & Ira for taking a chance on me & making triathlon way more exciting! Almost a year in Splish and they only get better...

Hey Bree, thanks for posting on my blog. Nice riding the last few miles with you this morning. I tried to register for Honu online but it's closed, (at least the online registration is) so I e-mailed them and told them I'm a Big Island resident. Still waiting to hear.

Guess I shouldn't have procrastinated.

The suit is adorable, Bree - but that left arm crossover....now that's something to correct :) I love splish suits too! They just made me a special race swimsuit.

Heck, even Dawn knows my size suit and double checks to make sure I order the right size each and every time!!! Splish rocks and they are lucky to have you represent them!!!

Do they make any banana hammocks for guys? Otherwise I can take your 'hand-me-downs' when you are done with them!
And I agree with E.L.F., what the heck is going on with your left arm? Some kinda hula run thing goin on? You might hurt yourself!

Now I have more of your family viewing my blog, what the.....Cricket?

I love the colorful suits and I agree with Mel that you still look good in the plain old suits! We have a store here in Edmonton that apparently sells them so I am going to check it out!

Well I'm glad someone's giving you free suits as you sure as heck deserve them!!

Maybe you should give me your old ones so I can maybe be as fast as you? Does it work that way :)

HI BREE!!!

First, thanks for you support! It was a tough decision. I love coming to your blog. You always have some fun story, recipe, motivational blog!!! And it so fun to see all your pics. The hand me downs...gotta love that picture. What a memory!! I've got one Splish suit but it's getting it's wear and need to design some more. That's the fun part. Cheers

Before reading your article, I had not thought suits mattered much. Although over here, when you see a local sporting a Baywatch red ladies' swimsuit instead of the traditional 19th century things, that's when you are likely to bang you head on the wall.

I have to agree! You're lookin good no matter what, but you are making me laugh with your take on the speedo suits. All I have to say is thank God we are women :D Those speedos for men are the butt of every joke and rightly so!!! :D

Just so you know (saw one of your posts on another website)...going to the MIT wind tunnel isn't an experience that only "special people" get to experience (as a certain triathlete would have you believe if you read her website..;-) ). If you have a spare $1400 lying around, you TOO can do it. Check this out: http://www.thompsontri.com/index_files/GWWTTC.htm

The Speedo suit was the last thing I noticed in that picture. Look at how incredibly strong and muscular your legs are! Your legs are just screaming POWER & SPEED!!! Now I know how you cranked out a sub-2:00 this past weekend. Congratulations! -mira
