Post LONG SWIM Soothie...

It has been swim swim swim around here! Swim with masters, swim with Kainoa, swim with Jim, swim with friends, swim with dolphins, swim 2.4 miles for "fun", this Thursday and Saturday is the local masters swim time trials, and Sunday is the LONG 6 mile Ali'i Challenge swim... swimming is in full swing here in Kona!

Sunday was the 2.4 mile Kona swim for the McCary's. LONG but fun. After the swim I realized it is long, hurts a bit, and needs recovery fuel! Kainoa I have a favorite smoothie for every sport. After LONG hot runs and bikes we like fruity-cool things, but LONG swims we like smooth creamy things. Here is our 2.4 mile smoothie:

2.4 mile Smoothie:
  • 8-10 ounces unsweetened chocolate almond milk
  • 2 scoops protein powder
  • 3 bananas
  • 1-2 table spoons of almond butter
  • small handful of ice
  • table spoon of flax seeds.
This flavor of almond milk is low in calories (only 45 per 8 ounces), no sugar, & a bit of protein. The bananas are all-natural carbs, full of minerals, natural sugar to sweeten the milk. And flax seeds contain fiber, protein, minerals, and help stabilize blood sugar so you aren't craving sweets 10 minutes later...

sounds just like our morning post-masters smoothie! i LOVE unsweetened almond breeze (the chocolate breeze is good too in a banana, almond butter, chocolate one...) YUM!

but i usually use one banana- 3 must be the trick for swimming FAST!!!

did you check out simon whitfield's eating plan? he loves "the breeze" too!!

I eat all those ingredients just about every day, but swallow them separately, as I can't be bothered to mix them. I must be swimming too slowly, as 2.4 miles feels really easy. Sad to miss the swim races in Kona.

Bree,
Some other delish things to add to smoothies, other recipes or this one:
1) Very Greens--Trader Joe's ( or any green supplement, for Vit K, K+, Ca2+, etc)

2) Agave Syrup--low glycemic, great in smoothies

3) Bee pollen. Actual chunks, yum, very healthy and good.

4) Almonds soaked in water...drain them and they mix very smooth-ly in a smooth-ie

Just some Idea-rs!!! :) Eat real food..Yummy

Hi Bree! I can't BELIEVE they don't give you your DESERVED "E" on your calf---AND they put the wrong age down....um, hello. Not cool! It's just like the whole principle of it is just...off!!!

I'm totally trying that smoothie, it sounds right up my alley! Yum!

OH! I found a product you may like for all your swimming. I have issues with my cuticles completely ripping from swimming, so "Bert's Bee's" makes a lemon butter cuticle cream...I put it on my cuticles before I swim =0 and it WORKS!! It stops the hangnails, etc.

Ok, sorry, thought i'd post about this since you posted some of your other favorites! PS: Bert's Bee's is all natural, so I think you'd approve!

Yum! Will that smoothie make me swim any faster? I'm so glad to hear you say swimming 2.4 miles hurts. I thought it was just me.
