Swimming Anyone? Calling Jen Nottage...

No, the answer was no. Coach officially wants to strangle me... he has worked SO long and SO hard on getting me to focus on the "bigger" picture and keep my goals in tack. In the instance of anything "fun" I jump on the train of "Let's do it!" and the big picture just hangs out in the distance. Guess that is why I need a coach, and one like Coach Paul who cares enough to save me from myself... Seriously... if not for him you might find me at a race every single weekend, every day of the weekend, sick, tired, injured, worn out, but happy just to be racing...

So... I will NOT be climbing up the side of a volcano this weekend. Oh I will be riding, still have that little race, IM Canada in the distance. AND I will be swimming...

CALLING JEN NOTTAGE! Are you there? Come swim with me please!! Yep, I am doing a pool swim meet. Hilarious! Of course there is no rest or taper for it... try a brick prior to the start. A nice ride/run tomorrow then a RACE. 200 and 500 free.

Saturday will be another ride/run- OUCH, followed by a mile for time! DOUBLE ouch! In a pool... gross. A mile in the ocean sign me up ANY DAY! I am always up for anything in the ocean... but a POOL? Who do I draft, I can't draft, Can I draft?, how will I count that high?

Jen, please show up to the pool Thursday about 5pm and Saturday about 2pm, I will be there sweaty and gross and needing you to keep me company! PLEASE! I'll give you a $1.00!!

AND... thank you to Blue Seventy I JUST got a fancy new wetsuit that fits like a glove for IMC!! hmmm, wonder if I can wear it in the swim meet????? The Blue Seventy is so flexible I just might be able to pull a decent dive off the blocks in that thing.... I am so tempted...

Hey B-
Sounds like you are dialed in for IMC. Keep up the good work. I may run into you on the Queen K thurs and sat. If Jen doesn't show at the pool I can help you out, by counting laps for ya!! no worries!

Peace out...

Bummer about the bike race!! But that's what coaches are good for - to save us from ourselves and the wacky ideas we come up with!! :) Anyway - have fun with the pool races!!! I hope you don't lose count! :) (you definitely need a lap counter for the mile... :)

OK then....Saturday for sure and we'll see about Thursday.....I haven't raced off the block in about 28 years!! Holy Cow this is going to be fun. If I can make it tomorrow night yes; but there's Saturday.....I'll try to limit being lapped to maybe just a few times by you:) Get ready. Naughty

BREE!!! I finally made a blog page. You have to help me make my page all spiffy like yours! Your coach is making the right decision for you! Canada is way more important than Sea to Stars. Knowing you, you would be racing every weekend if you could. See you @ masters!

I'm glad the coach knows what's right for you. Probably not a good idea to race at altitude unless you are already living or working (as one guy I knew does) at the top of Mauna Kea. I drove up it and was fine, but my wife was light-headed at the top. Ability to quickly adjust to altitude and fitness are, I think, quite different things. Not long to go now to IMC.

GOOD luck at the swim meet. I love it - Bree is doing a swim meet - off the blocks, with precise flip turns and dive in and no drafting! It will be GOOD FOR YOU!!! Way to step out of your comfort zone - good luck! Let me know how it goes...! Jen H. :)

It's a shame Kaiona is still too young to do the counting, sorry one of my former coaches had her niece count for her at Master's meets., In the pool there is a way to draft it's subtle but it has been done ( sadly I know because in high school I used to be the guy that was pulling the two guys next to me.) Pretty much you hug the lane line of the person next to you, for 300 yards and make your move, not as easy as open water but it can be done.

bummer about the bike race but you will more than make up for it when you light up the field in Canada.

You just used half of my favorite bribe! "I'll give you a dollar....and something else...." (The trick is to never specify the 'something else' so it sounds really good but doesn't have to be. Works best on BF's.)
