10-4...

10-4 or ten-four, it's my favorite way to say "bye" when I hang up the phone...

10-4, that's a wrap! Time for some non-tri stuff for a little bit...

10-4, that's my score (if I was keeping score). I had 10 good races this year and 4 not-so-good ones. BUT... the 4 not-so-good I learned the most, hurt the most, will undoubtedly make me stronger...

Longhorn 70.3, No excuses, I stunk it up BIG time. Nutrition and pacing were "golden", phewwww... glad I got that one figured out in time for the off season. After a lack luster swim (except I got to run up the beach behind Michillie Jones after drafting her for 20 minutes- yes, the swim was 4-6 minutes short), and a less than stellar ride where my mind was not on the bike... I realized after a long season where my heart and head were back in Hawaii I could not "fake" it through the day.

Off the bike I forgot about the longhorn and tacos at the finish line. I was ready to be done. Ready to see my son. Ready to call it a wrap and take care of matters on the home-front...

The high-light of the race was thinking back to my first race of the season, I placed second by 5 seconds, I lost in a sprint finish... As I was coming into the finish yesterday it came down to a sprint finish...between 12th & 13th place (not exactly GOOD placings) but I felt like I had a little mission to not lose the sprint... so I raced for 4 seconds yesterday and got the sprint by 3 seconds...

NOW I AM IN HAWAII and could NOT be HAPPIER...

Bring on the coconuts, jump in the ocean, and I am gonna watch me a sunset...

I was out there yesterday too, and I would say it was one of the tougher races I've ever done - including Ironman Arizona! I was amazed at my swim time, though - it definitely was short! Looking forward to hearing of your off-season adventures - I'm looking toward doing some non-tri stuff too! (I just wish I had somewhere to surf!)

Glad you're home safe and sound, Weezle. Time for a little R&R and hanging with your boys. Surf's supposed to be 5 feet by tomorrow here, hope you're getting some of that too!

10 - 4 is a pretty damn good rookie year, girl, be proud.

I'm so happy to hear you are at home with the ones that love you and care about you so much!! That is awesome and you did learn so much Bree. Those races happened that way for a reason and you know that! We are here, living in our house about 3 miles south of Kona and it is SICK, I mean, not even right how nice it is. I would have just been happy with clean. We are enjoying the time here, and I am sweating my butt off which is exactly what I think I am supposed to be doing at this point! I'm loving the atmosphere and enjoying the sights. Hope to see you on Wed night!! Take care & talk soon!

I hear ya! I, too, counted my race score today- so funny. I don't think I was as good as 10-4, though. Enjoy your Kona cheering weekend with the girls. Oh, and get some fun runs in when you feel like it.

Bree, We've never met, but you have been such an encouragement to me over the past 6 months since coming across your blog. I'm a relatively new mom (10 months)... you've inspired me to return to an active lifestyle. My husband and I did the Longhorn yesterday as a relay... and, it was fun to cheer you on as you were running. Keep after it, girl... and may the Lord be your strength as you persevere!

Hi Bree-
So glad I could bump into you right before you had that little sprint, even if you were lapping me! I had to sprint at the end too. Ouch.

I'm glad to hear you're having a little off season fun now! I'll be joining in the fun in a couple of weeks when cross country is over!

Bree, you gave it all you could and that's what mattered. Now your job is to relax and play (sort of like being a teacher when you get the summer off). Welcome back to Kona.

Glad your back! Can't wait to train with you for next year! Come back stronger and faster!

When is the underwear run? My cousins want to do it!

I was a little disappointed as I hoped you would end the season with a better race. Still it seemed the races over the last couple of months all seemed to be impromptu, last ditch efforts to qualify. If you can qualify early for next Hawai'i next year, then you could have a more fun schedule the rest of the time, and also plan things well in advance to maintain a semblance of normality. Still you accomplished a lot over the past year and I look forward to hearing how the second year of training starts.

Besides just Longhorn, you clearly learned a ton about racing and yourself this season. Well done Bree. Be proud.

Now go steal some pro stuff. :-)

I heard Macca and Norman were running together, that's double points.

I would be ALL over the easy swim and coffee. Enjoy the off season - you have worked SO hard, learned so much, and had a really great rookie pro season! Yes, its the worst races where we learn the most, eh? Sounds like you have a really positive attitude about it - and that's really what counts! Onward and upward (to quote JH) - enjoy your boys and the surf!
