Keiki Triathon (Little Ironman)

Today I was fired up. Well, it started when they attached my "athlete band" on my wrist at check in/registration. 140.6 LET'S GO. That excitement then escalated at precisely 3:44pm. About 16 minutes before the start of the keiki race. Getting body marked, (yes, they even let parents who had to escort the little swimmers have an Ironman tattoo), then putting shoes into the transition area, (the EXACT same T1 & T2 as the BIG KIDS Ironman), I was getting butterflies but so pumped! Bring on the race!!
Kainoa on the other hand was not into it at all. He was all about swimming and shaved ice. But swimming and then running, not so much. This was not a beach's race day. Both of our beloved KSwiss sneakers landed in transition and then it was time to get on the beach and wait for the horn.

Body marking at it's finest, we aren't washing them off either. Kainoa wants his on at school and I want mine on for the week, but that's it.
The pier was CRAZY crowded with all sorts of kids and parents. Kainoa sported surf trunks, some kids had on their parents race kits, and others didn't really give a hoot and ran barefoot and nearly naked. It pretty much ruled. No speed suits, only a few with goggles, and EVERYONE happy (for a little while anyway).
Reaching the shore Kainoa was ready to get out, put on shoes, and get to the shaved ice shack. My mind was thinking about getting to the shoes!! And hurry up already...yeah, that's me below trying to be patient (walking) to transition as Kainoa took a few breaks and stopped for photo opps all while day dreaming about shaved ice.

Kainoa was in serious ALOHA mode, cruising. Where were his speed laces I kept thinking as I tied those shoes!?! Once the shoes were on we got running. Then we stopped. Literally stopped and he went towards shaved ice and I went towards Alii Drive. We never even made it ONTO Alii Drive! I did my best mom comforting skills and told him we could walk, crawl, or skip, but let's just finish THEN shaved ice. Kainoa was having nothing to do with that...
As for the finish, I'll give you one hint where that was...(see above photo). No worries, Kainoa was in no mood for racing so it looks like I'll have to race for us both on Saturday! Oh K-Town is looking cool. Fully loaded with beautiful bikes, fit bodies, tans, bright shoes, speedos, and now a lot of athlete wrist bands! It gets more exciting by the day and seeing so many faces from races earlier in the season is awesome!
Tomorrow the face-to-face greetings continue for the KSwiss and Argon 18 teams. KSwiss team is going to be hanging out at the booth for chat and autographs from 10-11 and the Argon 18 team is from 3-3:30 so stop by if you are in K-Town and want to say hi to us. Hope every one's training, taper, and volunteering is going well...

That is great!! And it only gets better with time. Wait until he is a teenager and wants to "take on Mom" at IM distances.

I got my thrill this past week when my 17 year old said he wanted to take me on at Escape from Alcatraz next year. I think the race directors are going to work with me on this one if we don't get picked in the lottery.

Hey, don't you have a race in a couple days?? Have fun out there.

Your "bikini tail" is hanging out again. I think it is hysterical that you wear your bikini under everything...I think I even noticed it during your photo shoot earlier in the week. :o) Love it!! It's the epitome of "Hawaiian" in this Jersey girl's head.
Good luck this weekend. Enjoy every minute.
