Happy New Year!

I'm already more stoked on this year of life than I was on last year, and I loved last year! We ended the year with a giant jump into the ocean and for fireworks it was all about Pele and her lava. Red hot happiness seeing the lava move and groove forming new land & life. Day 1 of 2011 was the very first sunrise of the year (we were on the other side of the island to capture that). Day 2 a bird pooped on me (heard its REALLY good luck), Day 3 had a few surprises-like FREE watches from Timex, 5 more boxes for the Marshallese (the project is over yet they are STILL receiving some lovin'), and of course I got to SURF!!!!!!!
Day 4, are you ready for this?! I rode (survived) a ride with Lance Armstrong and crew! Seriously, I didn't even make any resolutions for the new year yet I'm astounded by the start of 2011!

Kainoa and I touching month old lava, a little warm under there and pretty exciting to stand on an old flow...
Watching the flow, it's a hot one! My favorite fireworks...
The journey to the first 2011 sunrise :) HAPPY NEW YEAR!

That was the New Year. This is today:
Coach, College, Lance, and crew let me roll with them on their 4hr hilly helly ride! Oh believe me, I was enduring a few moments of "kid in a candy store" since 6:30 that morning when I showed up at the Lance house. It was more normal of a lifestyle than I was envisioning the King of The Tour to have. I was awe struck. I've always been a Lance fan but this morning was like nothing I ever imagined. The ride, to sum it up, was very challenging for me. There was nothing easy about it and I'm still dizzy, really sore, and kind of feel like throwing up.
It started pretty chill down the high way and into town, chill enough for one photo, then I never saw that camera again! From there it got all sorts of hilly. For 4 hours my goal from coach was, "hold on for as long as you can for as much as you can". That meant whatever it takes. I'll tell you what it took... it took drafting like I have never hugged a wheel, it was coach pushing me back into the line to close a gap, (a few times), it was me getting to ride behind the escort car drafting so close my wheel was almost on the bumper and I was still foaming at the mouth, and finally, it was me holding onto the side of the escort car. Yes, I really did that and LOVED IT! I held on for dear life and once the car pulled me back to Lance I'd let go and dish out some smart @$$ remark like, "nice of you to finally catch me" or "do you need to hold my wheel?". Lance is a very cool guy, this experience showed me how hard he works. It took an escort car and 2 strong, (very strong men), to push him on an average training day. The other men worked together just to stay with Lance. There is no way I would have even been near him if it weren't for them letting me draft like a mad woman, the pushes they gave me, yanking on a jersey pocket, and the rides.
Id never trade this experience, it was so unreal to me. I'm really tired now and hurt in places that have never hurt even after an Ironman. It was a good start to the season to see hard work happen like this. This week with coach here it looks like Ill be spending a mini training camp chasing these guys around my back yard. Its good for me, Ive gotten soft and this is the kick in the rear I really need. Oh, and if you ever find yourself at the end of 4 hours of hills behind Lance, you MUST try this waffle thingy, it saved my life...

Not sure how day 5 and the rest of the year will top my day 4 of 2011 but I'm pretty sure it will...

LOTS of Aloha,
