Life IS Good n' Windy...

Seriously, this is the wind swell from our storm! The pier is surfable (small kine) but there were boys out. Could you imagine swimming to Ironman Buoy like this?! We swam to King's and pretty much came up sea sick, but it was fun in a really freaky kind of way...
Hold onto your bikes, brave not using the breaks, and prepare for the best hair day of your life! Today was seriously a windy mess! Woke up to a news report saying to stay off the roads, (all 2 of them we have around the island), as flash flood warnings are taking over the West side of the island. LOVELY. Then came the rain…
.
I began writing a text to coach. “Coach, should I switch around my Wednesday long ride for Thursday's run ‘cause a hurricane is here (slight exaggeration, but its insane windy!) and the rain is about to make a flood”. I never sent it. The part of me that is enjoying training so much right now and embracing this new season said, “GO GET IT”. Then I thought of the people in the snow, they ride in it. Us islanders have it too nice too often, so I deleted the text and hung on for dear life. In return for a very good ride using most my strength, I was given the best hair day ever! Hurricane winds and flash floods make for a hot hair doo! Too bad swim practice is going to ruin my hair as soon as that cap goes on… till then my hair is AWESOME!
.
January is such a cool month on the island. The sky is the best it ever is, the colors are more vivid and more bright than ever thanks to the snowy mountain tops reflecting its brighter than usual shades (Speaking of snow, 49 of the 50 states have snow and Hawaii is FOR SURE one of them!!). Hualalai is mostly clear all day everyday too. It never gets old to me and every run I’m more happy to look at it than I was the run before. Speaking of running, next week I’m planning 13.1 miles on Maui. Its been a massive bike focus so I’m pretty sure week next weekend will be painful. However, I need to get my rear in gear on the run and there is no better way than running surrounded by whales along the coast line of that little island. After that it’s less than a month till my first triathlon of the season.
.
The 5 weeks I took off has me on the edge of my seat to get going again. It was a painfully rough start to get up and at it again, almost frustrating dragging my @$$ around and feeling muscles try to wake back up. But it’s getting easier and I’m feeling more and more normal every swimbikerun.

WOW the winds are brutal, my coconut chimes are falling from the lanai as I type this! Speaking of cool breeze, Kainoa has found his hero's. The high school swim team. I love them as they motivate me to swim harder and faster. But he has embraced them as hero's and mentors. Monday we had the honor of escorting the team to the King's Buoy by SUP and they encouraged him (all 4yrs of him) to jump into the 40ft deep water, far from land, and swim to the buoy from the board. It was awesome to see him so fired up on swimming without the pressure of his parents wanting him to be part of sport. One day I'm sure Kainoa and I will be swimming that buoy together and before long Ill be drafting him! Till then... he's got some work to do. Speaking of work, time for swim practice.

Go Kainoa, go! All the way to the big kids :)

I know what you mean about awakening up the muscles - mine are taking their sweet time.

I love it when you post pictures like this. It gives me a little taste of the tropics in this long cold winter we're under. Glad you didn't blow over on the roads!

And I am in the State with no snow but still freezing my arse off. Guess I need to head a little further south.

How adorable to see Kainoa swimming so far from shore! I'm teaching my husband to swim, and at the moment he can only dream of swimming like your son, one day!
Please take care with the hurricane specially on the bike! I swear to you (and i do moan about my weather) that if we had a hurricane or a flash flood, I would just jump on the turbo.
Honestly! i xan even recommend a good movie to watch if you get bored:-)

Conditions like that are just God's way of saying, quite clearly, "Greyhound, stay out of the water."
