Panama Bound...

Break out the Maseca, time to make some empanadas because I am going to Panama! Sheesh, these close calls to making it to a race sure have me on the edge of my seat, (not in a fun way). This race was on my wish list since it was posted but living in Hawaii far away, being FLAT broke, and well, being broke mostly, Panama seemed to fall off the race list. It's now on and empanadas were celebrated with the boys at dinner last night!!

Training is so much better when you actually are TRAINING FOR A RACE. It felt different on the bike today, images of Panama were lingering in my mind, thoughts of Spanish phrases filled my head, and GETTING to race had me so happy and fired up. Yes, I already know this race is the Central American Championships and the start list is fully loaded with flavor, (you know what I mean), and perhaps I go all the way there and return with a payday similar to that of the cost of a coconut, the end of the day...this is an opportunity and I am going.

Last year I thought was my last season in sport and I was ready to land back into teaching, knowing, er thinking, I maxed out my credit card to support the travel habbits of a pro in this sport, one on an island FAR away to be more specific. BUT...Swift Bikes paid for my pro card so here I am. Broke, working on side gigs, but still doing what I love! This will in no way be an easy season of swimbikerun for me. In fact, Kainoa and I will be moving up the hill soon and off our beloved Ali'i Drive. However, it's going to be better and it will let me stay in sport a little longer. Who knows, one day I might even get really fast and win some actual prize money to support this life. At the moment, I'm just thankful, truly thankful, that the race is working out and I get to race. Nobody ever said having a go at a dream is easy or that it wouldn't mean some massive sacrificing. Another season in sport, here we go...

Thanks for all the support that always seems to help me land on my feet, appreciate it big time. See you all at the races, Kainoa and I are so ready for 2012! It's going to be a fun one, full of our usual swimbikerun, travel nightmares, tears, sweat, achievements, hopes & prayers, those rough days you need your mom, some beach too, and if you haven't heard we have the Masuda boys along for the ride this year too ;)

LOTS of ALOHA, Bree!!

Happy for you that you can race another year. I think its a win/win. You followed your dream (however it works out, you would always have wondered if you had not). The other part of the win/win is your fall back (teaching on the island)! Go fast in Panama - hope to meet you at Honu!

Panama sounds sooooo exotic and I'm so happy for you that you get to race another season. I still think you should have a sideline and publish a cookery book with all of your lovely hawaiian flavoured recipes :-)
I'll be a taster if you like :-)
Here hoping you land in the money at your next race

I for one would buy both a "Natural Eating for Athletes and Active Moms" (with advice for preparing for a heavy training week or just a busy week at the office and activities with kids) book (and its sequels, even just in e-format for example on Amazon…with photos :) ) AND a tri-camp weekend on the Big Island! Or how about a tri-camp week where the mornings are occupied with training and the afternoons are left for tourist stuff? Even if you just did this 4 times a year for a group of whatever size you could manage? I'd also buy training plans, as I'm sure others would for various levels….Teaching is life's greatest profession next to "mom," but you can make more by taking advantage of the sport and nutrition gifts you have to give the world ;) ……when you give the world the greatest gifts you have inside, the world rewards you big back….and the rewards get less the more we resist giving our gifts as the faucet turns to trickle to reinforce what actions we should be taking, and then the flood of gifts come the minute we turn our face towards those waiting to receive from you…..your financial gifts are waiting for you Bree! And we all want you to have them! And once those gifts start pouring in, the race place number 1's will have the greatest chance of coming at the same time, because race wins are part of the flood of gifts waiting for you when you are serving the world in the biggest way for you. Love you Bree!

Doing what you love most, which is biking and traveling, doesn’t need to be a weight on your shoulder in terms of paying for your sports gear and travels. You can pay for these via an installment term. To find out if you are being charged accordingly, monitor your credit card transactions religiously.

In case you need the funds ASAP, you can talk to companies that offer payday loans. They can get you a loan with low interest rates, offering great payment terms that won't hurt your budget. They can also help you get a good credit score. It's worth a try, especially when you're financially troubled. :)
