Day 2...

I thought day 1 was good... day 2 is even better! I took 50 more photos (probally of the same view because I love it that much!)

Faris Al-Sultan is my neighbor and I see him ride & run... LOVE IT! I got Tila (my bike) all set to go and took her for a spin. I rode up the "mini" beast, the "major" beast, the "microscopic" beast, and a ton of other hills that I named something that sort of looks like the beast. I even saw the real BEAST but decided I would not ride up it till mile 21 of the real race this Sunday. Thoughts: It is a beast but I am excited! I rode for about an hour and wanted to keep on going it was so beautiful... I suppose with the island so small all 56 miles of the race will be an entire tour of St. Croix.

Next up I got to meet up with Liz Fedofsky... that was awesome! She needed coffee and I probally needed to shush-up about how much I love it here! Then I saw someone from Kona! It made my whole day! My friend Lauren's dad is here to race! Oh there is nothing like seeing a friend from home!

AND then I went for a swim in a bikini of course (hello! I am on an island... gotta tan!) Let me tell you, I felt like a mermaid. I was snuggled in seaweed. I didn't see any fish but it felt like Kona water and looked like Kona coral/reef. Ahhh, the island girl in me!

Now a shower and then I am going to watch some stilt walkers and hear some "sounds of the Carribean"! Sending some tropical hugs to you all. I miss you Jim, Kainoa, Brooke, mom & Rod, Richau's, and Weidners, grams, & all my friends!

PS... anybody need anything? I know I have one request to drink a Pina Colada (however you spell that) for someone. Anything else?

Wee

45 minutes into the ladies race, one of the announcers said that Bree was in second place on the bike behind Julie Dibens of the UK (the course record holder). Way to go! Keep it up!

Anonymous said...

Yes bree was in second but I think she has been passed by Nina Kraft and about 4 other girls. Its 150am Hawaii time. Not sure just yet if she made it to the Beast.
Pat in Hawaii

Anonymous said...

Ok Bree is in 3rd behind with Nina in 1st and Crafree in 2nd. its 2am hawaii time and they just started the beast.

Anonymous said...

3rd place over the beast! Awesome bree.

Bruce Stewart said...

About 1hr55m into the race, Bree is 2nd! There has been some rain, so hope the wheels don't slip! The girls are on the beginning of the South Shore Loop. Where is Julie Dibens? Bree was 2nd coming down from the beast before the South Shore Loop with Nina in front.
1:59 Felicity Hart is in front! Then Bree (35 sec), then Nina & Miranda.

Anonymous said...

GO BREE!!! She's doing awesome! Holding tight with the pack. 2nd place. Run coming up soon.
Pat

Bruce Stewart said...

Bree Wee is being talked about on the radio. Ironman amateur record 9:47. First year as pro very good race in St. Croix and only 28!

Bruce Stewart said...

Bree still in 2nd, then Nina, then Miranda then Cynthia Wilson (a gap behind)

Anonymous said...

Very interesting run coming up with this pack of girls. Bree will hold tight!! GO Bree!! You are doing awesome and everyone is listening and following you! Although I'm falling asleep on the couch. 244am HI time. YOU ROCK!! Now kick some butt on the run!!
Pat

Bruce Stewart said...

The ladies update now is as follows: Julie Dibens had a flat tire, & out of contention (apparently). Pity!
27m 36s Bree was second in the swim a few seconds behind Julie who won the swim prize.

Anonymous said...

27.36 swim split for Bree!! AWESOME for 2nd place female.

Bruce Stewart said...

Julie may not get the swim prize if she does not finish the race, which would mean that Bree gets the swim prize (4 secs behind Julie, who is one of the best swimmers, if not the best)

Bruce Stewart said...

Nina got the "preme" (or however it is spelt) for reaching the top of the beast first on the bike, then Miranda.
Light showers now and then where the men are a bit further in the race.
About 2hr30mins into the race, the ladies: Felicity Hart at least a minute lead it sounds (Felicity is a duathlon champion). But a better report should come when the women reach the 45 mile marker in a few minutes.

Bruce Stewart said...

At 2hrs 42mins into the ladies' race, the order of the women is Felicity, then Nina (+95s), then Miranda, then Bree (fairly close to Nina). Keep it up!

Bruce Stewart said...

At 3 hrs 20 mins into the ladies' race (the leaders are already running), the order is as follows into the Buccaneer: Felicity Hart from the U.K.!, then Miranda (+40 secs), then Nina (1 min 30s plus), Bree (2m 25s) (Bree could have been confused with a suddenly fast Julie Dibens due to curly race numbers - I think it is Bree, but I cannot be sure)
The run course is hilly and is hotting up with the sun coming out, but still a breeze! So it is no walk in the park. At least Bree is off the bike and now can focus on her run.
The fastest men's bike split was 2hr19m10s (Mario Vanhonecker).

alison said...

The updates are so exciting!!! Sending some speedy energy your way. :-)

Anonymous said...

You know, if she just had a Trakkers GPS device on her, we would know exactly where she is in real time!! Sorry Bree, shameless plug. I wont do it again. Go get um on the run, we're cheering for you!

Bruce Stewart said...

Commentator reckons Miranda is the best runner. Julie was also a pre-race favorite but is out of contention at least due to a flat (which is estimated to take 5 or 6 mins to fix).
A bit before the 5 mile mark on the run (time approx. 3hrs 40mins, the order of the women is as follows: Miranda (no. 50), then Nina (1hr 15s), then Felicity, then Bree (3 mins behind the lead) coming out of the Buccaneer) so that is not the 5 mile marker yet.

Bruce Stewart said...

Bree is in 3rd at 5 mile mark. Felicity is in 4th. So, Bree passed Felicity. Miranda is 2 mins ahead of Nina in second.

Anonymous said...

bree is in 3rd at 300m back. moving good. Pat

Bruce Stewart said...

Interesting race between Nina and Bree (in first year as a pro) (that is the commentator's words). They think Felicity may be "spent" after the fast bike.

Bruce Stewart said...

Miranda just entered the Buccaneer (a hilly part of the run) for the second time as the first woman at about 4 hours into the race. She is probably about 8 miles through the run now. Splits (at 4 hrs 12 mins into the race): Miranda (huge lead), then Felicity, 7 mins + (obviously has a lot left in her), Nina 10mins +, Bree not seen (big spaces between the women). Hope Bree still has something left. Less than 5 miles to go.

Anonymous said...

Brees in 3rd!!!! 1 min behind Nina!!

Anonymous said...

10mile marker Bree you Rock. you go girl......3rd place

Bruce Stewart said...

Top three women coming out of the Buccaneer. Bree Wee now only 4m 33s behind in third place, Nina in 2nd (so perhaps some reports are a little wacky), but I think this is a more accurate one! Go Bree, you're only a minute behind Nina.

Anonymous said...

Bree, it's 5am Hawaii time....I hope I can stay up....finish hard!
Almost to the finish. You go girl.

Bree you are freaking kicking some butt there... You must be in your zone all the way... We all are cheering and praying for you... You are just about there.. Finish strong and be so proud of yourself..
We all love you here -your family

Bruce Stewart said...

At 4 hrs 30 mins, Miranda Carfrae is on her way down the shute. The winner!

Bruce Stewart said...

Miranda said it was tougher this year - more competition than she had when she won two years ago. I wonder who gave her a hard time!
Update at 4hrs 34mins on the other ladies: Second woman coming in Nina Kraft, and in third some minute plus behind. It's Bree! First for the USA.

3rd Place Bree!!!! Awesome job!!!!

alison said...

3rd!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!
How awesome!!!

Brooke Myers said...

Yahoo Bree... we just heard you come through -we are all sooooooooo proud of you...Congrats with your finish.. The announcer says you don't even look like you are breathing hard and you are already getting coverage! So happy for your race - sure would have loved ot been there cheering you on all the way!!!!!

Bruce Stewart said...

Bree does not appear to be breathing hard. The TV companies are competing to interview her. "It was so much fun, the crowd was awesome,..." St. Croix was amazing.

Brooke Myers said...

We just heard your voice Bree...You are such an inspiration to all of us ....they are teasing you on your name.. ha ha

Bruce Stewart said...

I forgot to congratulate Bree. At least you finished quickly so I can get to bed at a good hour (11:15 pm in Taiwan). This will be a race to remember, and I hope you have a good rest and recover well.
The commentator said Miranda is the world champion at this distance, so your performance was truly an awesome performance.
