Big Men Wanted...

19 days of pretty much eating, sleeping, chillin', and a few random sweat sessions here and there. Today was time to get SERIOUS...

I took the 3 minute walk from my home to the gym (what a warm up!!) Then I searched the gym for the BIGGEST, STRONGEST, most SCARY men in Kona! I needed to measure my strength, see what I was made of....

I discovered, I am an endurance machine that can hardly lift a dumb bell! Push ups? Don't even ask!! Pull ups, not a single one! At least I have a starting point...the bottom.

So... I lifted, pushed, pulled, sat up, squatted, flexed, hung, dropped, and all the other things you do in a gym. After 30 minutes I was feeling pretty darn good, feisty might be a better word. Can I seriously go from spaghetti noodle arms to "Wonder Woman" in a 30 minute session?! I think so... or maybe having not lifted weights all in-season (I only lift in off-season), my body was remembering all the off-season reps!

In any case I was feeling spunky! Maybe even cocky. So I did another search for the biggest man I could find and with my new found strength I mustered up the guts to challenge him in an arm wrestling match...

Check out the size of his pipes compared to mine?????? OF COURSE I WON!
I love the off-season!

Hilarious! Of COURSE you won - :) Um, slightly disturbing BUT, the size of his forearms are bigger than your upper arms. Keep it up and enjoy the lifting!

I think his forearms are probably bigger than your legs! That's hilarious! Glad you have fun at the gym. I stuck with the old guys trying to talk politics at the Y!

Ok. I'm just going to say it. That has to be the best post ever!!! My fun starts Monday. New routine, more strength than anyone can imagine, and now that I've seen your blog loads of fun challenging large guys to arm wrestling contests ;) And if I lose, we'll see who can do the best Upward Facing Bow pose. I can't wait...

What fun!

I think my arm would have broken just thinking about taking him on.

love it!!! I like how you have the towel facing in his direction. I'm sure he has NEVER thought about a sprint triathlon, let alone a 70.3 :) Maybe you can get him to train aerobically??? :)

Bree that is funny and the funny thing is you BOTH are cracking up...you should have challenged him in a leg wrestling match..with your muscle legs..he would be GOING DOWN...I still have not been beat by ANY man....if you don't know what that is email me and I will fill you in...you will beat every man in the gym!!! OK you just motivated me to go lift some weights...my arms are real pathic:)

I feel so much better knowing you can't do a pull up either. I thought I was just a weaklink. That dude has some serious forearms!

Swimming is very good for developing the muscles of the upper body. Of course, if combined with related weight training, it will be even better.

Thats a cool photo...the question is how sore were you today after the weights session? The first off-season weights is always a wake-up call :-)

Can you move your arms today? :) I love that you're on the Austin 70.3 towel! Have fun!

the first gym session in the off season is always the worst. its almost as if my body is not allowing itself to do anything. except eat!

I think even his forearm is bigger than your legs!

Make sure he knows you'll be coming back for a rematch.

Hahahahahahahaha!!! It would be a teensy weensy bit more believable if the big dude wasn't laughing so hard! Of course, that might have been your tactic -- make him laugh and then slam him down. Wham, Bam, Thank you M'aam.

LOL!!!!! :) :) :)

30 minutes - that IS all you need to get to "wonder woman" status! HA!

Speaking of push-ups, I did a bunch in the snow today. That's right... snow. Can I come visit you?...

Wee, I am so feeling this post right now. I have vowed to start strength training at least 2 and ideally 3 days a week.

I did it twice last week and was in PAIN for like 2 days after each workout.
