91 Miles Later, Stitches For Kainoa...

This is was my post long brick surprise. Kainoa and his daddy had a surf accident in the big summer swell (the waves are HUGE right now). It broke this mommy's heart and made me nearly barf looking into his little mouth through his little chin...

I have found this "perfect job" actually does have a down fall-when your office is on a bike you can't get to where you need to go as fast as leaving an office and getting into your car, or you miss the call because you are out running 11 miles (like today)...

All is good in Kona, Kainoa and his dad are going to be fine...looks like raising a boy has me in for a lot of band aids!!

Surf safe...

Oh no, poor little guy! I'm sure you were quite worried! Hopefully all is well now.

Poor kid..I once got a call while I was lifeguarding that my baby sister got bit by a dog in the face, phone calls like that are never fun! Hope he heals up and recovers in no time! I've always found cocoa butter and Vitamin E work great for healing/scars, a 2-in-1!

Oh poor little thing. Heal soon Kainoa :)

Welcome to being the mother of a boy!

Awww, poor Kainoa. His big, red, tearful eyes in the second picture broke my heart. I bet he'll be proud of his injury before too long!

Bandaid sponsorship! :-)

No, seriously, very sorry to hear that he got hurt. Glad you were at least on the island when it happened!

OMG... the poor little sweetie! Hugs to you both!

That is some cut. I agree with Damon, if there is a scar there when he gets older, it will only benefit him with the ladies. Looks like the doctor did a good job stitching him up though, so probably not good scar. Hope he is feeling OK...and you as well.

Oh no! Poor Kainoa! Glad he is OK--he'll have a great story someday...

So is this what I've gotten myself into with a boy? I'm in trouble in a year or so...!

Sending hugs!

Bree - that sucks...but boys will be boys!

I have three! And can tell you, the ER knows me and my kids!

Glad he is safe....I will pray he heals fast!

Ouch!!! Poor kiddo and poor dad. That had to scare the tar out of him. Poor Bree, you probably had to be sick with worry. Did Kainoa have any whiplash issues? Pay special attention if he complains about not feeling good. Little kids cannot tell you specifics like my neck or my head hurts.

It sounds like a scoop of ice cream or fruit slushy is in order.

Oh Bree, my heart is breaking for you and him. That is big on the list of a mom's worst nightmare. I keep wondering when it will be my turn.

I hope he feels better soon. He'll be bragging about it though when he gets bigger, like a badge of honor (and what is cooler than to have done it surfing as opposed to bumping into the table edge, still though, for you....I'd be crying my eyes out).

glad he is otherwise ok.

Oh no... so sorry but I know he has good parents that love him and will take care of him. Heal soon Kainoa! Thinking of you!

ouch! heal soon, dude. he's probably tough like his momma.

As a mom, I feel your pain. Nothing worse than to see your little guy hurt and in pain. Mine is 3 and already has two scars. I guess its a boy thing bc my 7 year old daughter has no scars. (knock on wood)

Hang in there. Looks like all he needs now is lots of hugs and kisses...and ice cream. :-)

I don't comment often but love reading your blog. I have a little boy who is 10 months old and I know such injuries are in my future but it broke my heart to see Kainoa's tear filled eyes. Glad he is going to be okay. Sounds like he'll have one nice story to tell about how he got that scar.

Awww...it breaks my heart to see a kid in tears and pain ;( LOTS of hugs sent to him and you, as I know you hurt seeing him like that!! SCARGUARD is awesome, kind of pricey..but worth it!!!

Ouch! Poor guy... the pic with the tears coming out of his big blue eyes breaks my heart.... I'm glad he's going to be fine, I hope he feels better soon!

It's always painful...

Not that it lessens the hurt, but with our three boys we used to have "frequent visitor cards" punched at the local emergency room. Every fifth visit was free...

Poor little dude! Make sure to tell him chicks dig scars!

On a side note:

From someone who has to stitch children those are impressively straight. kudos to the person who did the repair.

Oh the poor little sweet pea!! Those red, wet eyes and messy hair are priceless. Bree, boys will be boys. I have two of them. Heal soon Kainoa!!
Think of the story he will tell when he is older "So my dad took me surfing and then..." HOW COOL!!!

Sometimes you miss the call when you work in an office too so don't be too hard on yourself.

That sucks for him. Hope that it doesn't stop him from getting back on the board when he is healed.

Speedy recovery to everyone involved!

I hope he and his momma's heart heal up quickly.

Poor guy. My son, Mattias, says the stitches look "pretty cool" though so at least there's some street cred.

Hope he's feeling better.

Oh those little tears too - poor Kainoa!! I bet your smoothies will help him heal up quick! :)

I am typing this with my head between my knees so I don't pass out. That scar will make him look tuff and the girls will think he's SOOOO hot. He is one brave kid. Gotta love the boys!

OMG Bree, that is one super scary looking injury. Poor baby. Hope he's ok.

Deborah said...

Poor kid. Give him whatever he wants for the next few days to make both of you feel better. I had to show this to my dh as I am going up to ride the WI course tomorrow am. he reminded me we already had this happen with the bad cat scratch under the eye when our daughter was 4. She has a very slight mark.

Oooohh da poor boy... I'm sure if he's even half as tough as his mom he'll be back in the waves soon again.

I'm glad that he is safe now, as things could have been much worse.

My thoughts are with Kainoa and make sure he get's all the special goodies he wants while he's recovering.

So sorry, Bree! Hope he feels better.

I just wanted to let you know that I found out what my mom used for my little sister after the dog bite and it was Curad scar therapy. She got it right at the pharmacy and it worked great, she only has one scar that's not really noticeable on her face (as compared to 5 spots on her face that could have been awful). I hope this helps too!
